Getting Around Perth City

It’s easy to explore Perth with a range of free and affordable transport options.

Your transport options to get around Perth are almost as diverse as the city itself. There are a number of public transport options available within Perth city and surrounding suburbs – trains, busses and boats – as well as free guided tours. There’s transport to suit every type of traveller.

Bus & Free CAT Bus

Within the city centre you are invited to use the the free CAT bus services. The CAT buses run on four circular routes around the city. These services are also available within the city of Fremantle.

You can also utilise free travel with Perth City’s ‘Free Travel Zone’. This allows you to travel on a Transperth bus or train within the limits of the free zone. For travel outside the free zone you can buy a ticket from the bus driver or the Transperth InfoCentre.

Trains

The free travel zone on the trains are City West on the Fremantle line and Claisebrook on the Midland and Armadale line. Tickets can be purchased from machines at each station or you can use your SmartRider to tag on and off. DayRiders and FamilyRider tickets are also available.

Ferries

Ferries to Fremantle or across the river to South Perth depart from Barrack Street Jetty located on the river foreshore. The ferry from Rottnest Island leaves from Fremantle, Hilary’s and Barrack Street Jerry.

Taxis

Taxi ranks are located around the city centre. Taxis may also be hailed on the street or ordered by phone anywhere in Perth.

Cycling & Walking

Perth has a comprehensive network of cycle and walking paths running throughout the city and beyond. One of the most popular routes for leisurely cyclists is a circuit around the Swan River. These riverside routes are clearly signposted. Cycle maps can be found here.
