The perfect way to spend a winter’s day, is exploring the museums and galleries scattered throughout SA’s beautiful regions. In the heart of Adelaide you’ll find Adelaide’s cultural boulevard, North Terrace. This precinct includes the Art Gallery of SA, the SA Museum, the State Library of SA, and the University of Adelaide. These fascinating heritage buildings date back to the 19th Century.
The SA Museum is particularly noteworthy for containing the world’s largest Aboriginal Australian collection and at The Art Gallery of SA you’ll find over 38,000 works and an ever-changing roster of Australian and international exhibitions.
Another must-visit is The National Wine Centre, just outside the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Most importantly, it is an educational hub for learning all about wine-making and wine appreciation, because it boasts Australia’s largest wine tasting room, with 120 different wines available for sampling.

Next, head to the famous West End Brewery. The Brewery has been part of the South Australian community since 1859 and recently took on an upgrade. The Brewery has a reputation of making the highest quality beer and ciders for many years.

Historic Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills
A truly scenic spot to visit during winter are the green rolling landscapes of the Adelaide Hills. Because its here you’ll find the small town of Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. Enjoy comforting German food by the fire and take in the charming original buildings dating back to 1838, when the Lutheran migrants first settled here.

Indulge in winter feasts and bold reds
In winter all you want to do is rug up and gorge on warm comforting cuisines and sip on full bodied red wines. Certainly, foodies will not be disappointed in all that South Australia has to offer. World-famous chefs, winemakers and producers, from the city to the Adelaide Hills, Barossa to the Eyre Peninsula, SA is a culinary playground, of city bars, regional distilleries, cellar doors and wineries, all just waiting to be explored.
In the city you must check out “Adelaide’s food hub” – the Adelaide Central Markets. It’s one of Australia’s largest fresh produce markets with 80 stalls of fruit and vege, patisseries, cafes and artisan cheeses.

Decadent experiences in Barossa Valley
A little further, just 50 minute north east of Adelaide, is the Barossa…an internationally-acclaimed wine region encompassing the towns of Tanunda, Angaston and Nuriootpa. Home to over 80 cellar doors, you can taste some of the most awarded wines in the world and sumptuous local produce.
One of our favourite activities to indulge in, is the chocolate and wine pairing experience at Elderton Wines Cellar Door. Because this decadent tasting features a range of their wines paired with premium chocolates produced by one of Australia’s master chocolate makers. We love this experience and at only $20 per person it’s a must do when in the region!
Another amazing experience in the Barossa is to try your own birth year vintage Tawny directly from the barrel in a 1878 built wine cellar. Sip on a wine as old (or young) as you are, in the beautiful Seppeltsfield Winery.
Get back to nature in a WINTER wonderland
Take in the spectacular sights along the South Australian coast, just forty minutes South of Adelaide, the Fleurieu Peninsula offers some of South Australia’s finest coastal, scenic and culinary experiences. The region is home to the internationally renowned McLaren Vale – the home of sustainable wine production, world-renowned labels and unparalleled gastronomic experiences.
Further into the region is the coastal town of Port Lincoln in the Eyre Peninsula, the seafood capital of Australia. Enjoy the freshest seafood, wildlife encounters including wild koalas and spectacular scenery. Check out our tours in this region here.
