The Perth Mint offers a unique combination of attractions which allow visitors to experience all the magic, allure and wonder of gold. With a history spanning more than a century, The Perth Mint is an institution of the Western Australian gold mining industry and custodian to one of the State’s oldest heritage sites open to the public.
Our meticulously maintained colonial building is a landmark of the city of Perth and a magnificent reminder of the State’s golden beginnings. Founded by Britain’s Royal Mint in 1899 in response to one of the greatest gold rushes in the world, which began near Kalgoorlie six years earlier, the Mint’s fundamental roles were to refine gold from the newly discovered eastern goldfields and turn it into gold bars and coins. These primary functions continue to this day and are the foundation to the dynamic, modern enterprise that The Perth Mint has become, which provides quality precious metal products and services to markets throughout the world.
Home to Australia’s bullion and commemorative coin programs, and the provider of a range of pure gold and silver bars and other precious metal investment options and storage facilities, The Perth Mint’s remarkable operations and offerings are superbly conveyed through our world-class visitor centre. Housed in our historic 1899 building, the award-winning Gold Exhibition brings the fascinating story of Western Australia’s golden heritage, and The Perth Mint, to life.
Watch a molten gold pour and see precious gold bars and coins being struck at the award-winning Perth Mint. There’s plenty to see with a unique combination of activities, demonstrations and displays. Marvel at Australia's largest collection of natural gold nuggets, including the second largest gold nugget in existence, weighing in at 25.5 kilograms. Guided talks operate every hour.
