True North Adventure Cruises has won a plethora of awards for excellence including state and national tourism awards, export awards and numerous consumer awards. TRUE NORTH II is purpose-built to sail deep into the heart of wilderness, visiting areas that larger ships cannot access. Guests are privy to immersive excursions via onboard helicopters and dedicated adventure boats. Exceptional food and wine are also at the heart of the True North 2 experience. Modern Australian cuisine is supplemented with locally sourced ingredients and complemented by an outstanding selection of Western Australian wines.
And again, just like they are on TRUE NORTH, the crew of the TRUE NORTH II are always very much part of onboard life - you may even feel as though they are having just as much fun as you are! That’s because they are – every day is an adventure for the crew as well and you will not be able to resist their enthusiasm and passion! Unlike more conventional cruise experiences – True North crew are encouraged to interact with our guests. They will uniquely chaperone your every experience providing assistance, interpretation and genuine company. They will bait your hook and carry your SCUBA tank but they will also join you for dinner and entertain in the ship’s lounge. And not forgetting that they will also prepare fine meals of distinction, maintain your cabins with our renowned degree of attention and safely navigate ship, boat and helicopter to each destination.
Guests on a True North adventure cruise never fail to recognize the outstanding involvement of the crew - they are one of the reasons that an adventure on the TRUE NORTH is not just another expedition cruise!
NIGHT ONE ONE: Talbot Bay
Your “welcome aboard” the TRUE NORTH is in the pearling port of Broome. Embarkation is 1700 – time for a cocktail with your fellow adventurers before departing at approximately 1830. Dinner is served shortly after leaving port for the overnight steam to Talbot Bay.
DAY ONE: Talbot Bay & Horizontal Falls
Awake to the majestic Kimberley and savour an irresistible TRUE NORTH breakfast as we glide past Cockatoo and Koolan Islands – our attentive crew will be happy to introduce the colourful histories of both! Then it’s time to ‘personally’ introduce you to a Kimberley icon – The Horizontal Falls. Experience the awesome power of the region’s huge tidal range in an exhilarating tender ride and then climb aboard your air conditioned helicopter for a view of the falls that very few experience! Take a refreshing swim and a walk on the squeaky white sands of Silica Beach. Before you know it, your first day onboard will be coming to an end – but there’s still time to select a fine wine and to enjoy a leisurely evening meal as we head north to Saint Georges Basin.
DAY TWO: Montgomery Reef
The morning excursion is to beautiful Ruby Falls. Swim under the falls and enjoy a ‘Kimberley Style’ mud bath. A short lunchtime cruise will deliver all aboard to the impressive silhouette of Raft Point. Here, join crew and guest alike for a moderate climb to an art gallery with a difference! Then it’s time to introduce another Kimberley icon – Montgomery Reef! Montgomery is a unique eco-system that must be seen to be believed – and see it you will – as 140 square miles of coral rises out of the ocean right before your very eyes! Water cascades from the reef as the falling tide exposes a privileged glimpse of another world! Turtle, dugong, manta ray and every imaginable sea creature abound whilst the ship’s helicopter puts all in perspective!
DAY THREE: Buccaneer Archipelago
The adventure boats will be away early for another ‘crack at the fish!’ Trolling around the Kingfisher Islands reliably produces hefty pelagics such as arm-wrenching trevally and lure smashing mackerel. A couple of good-sized goldens and some leaping queenfish will add to the sashimi account! Join the ship’s naturalist to hopefully see the island’s namesake. Take a refreshing swim and walk on the squeaky white sands of Silica Beach. In the late afternoon the adventure boats will be away again – this time in search of the Kimberley mud crab. Mud-crabbing is definitely a favoured activity onboard the TRUE NORTH but it might be a good idea to let your guide wrangle these feisty critters - as you keep equally busy with a chilled beverage in hand! Or join one of the adventure boats on a sightseeing expedition to Whirlpool Pass, aptly named further demonstration of the Kimberley’s powerful tides. Before you know it, your last day onboard will be coming to an end – but there’s still time to select a fine wine and to enjoy a leisurely evening meal as we cruise to Broome.
